Together with their families
joyfully invite you to their wedding celebration
October 5th, 2024
At the Parador de San Francisco
Our story so far

.
We started our adventure together in the build up to the pandemic, making us a lockdown love story.
Having had our first date at the Red Lion pub near Liverpool Street station in January 2020, we had only been dating six weeks when the world changed. With news of an impending lockdown we had to make a decision between living together or separating indefinitely. Because we were so over the moon with each other, we decided to take the plunge and move in together... in David's parents farm in East Sussex (Thank you Kevin, Susan & Caroline!). What followed was four months of singing to cows, feeding lambs, having picnics, stargazing, and baking red velvet cakes.

From then on, there was no turning back. We couldn't bear the thought of living apart, so as soon as the law allowed, we got our own place in London, in Canary Wharf. We discovered we were very happy in London building a home and a life together, and even happier when we moved to Hampstead- a happy compromise between David's country roots and Alexandra's love for the city. The only thing left was to satisfy our puppy fever! Naturally, we decided the perfect pooch to share a small London flat with us was a 25kg (55lbs) standard poodle called Sherlock, who needs more grooming than the two of us combined.

After we had established our little family, we were ready to take the next step! David travelled to The Woodlands, Texas to ask for the blessing from Alexandra's family for our marriage in one of our favorite American restaraunts - The Cheesecake Factory (Thank you Jack, Yolanda and Ethan)! David planned the proposal of Alex's dreams in Paris in May 2023, with views of the Eiffel in the background. C'est le plus beau jour de notre vie! Since then, we have poured our hearts into wedding planning, creating a perfect wedding for us to celebrate with our loved ones.
Estamos felices de celebrar nuestra boda con vosotros el 5 de octubre!

Travel and Tourism
How Granada became Granada
The area was first settled by early Iberians, later followed by the Romans and Visigoths. Following the Moorish conquest of the region, Granada became a major city of Al-Andalus in the 11th century. In the 13th century it became the capital of the Emirate of Granada under Nasrid rule, the last Muslim-ruled state in the Iberian Peninsula. Granada was conquered in 1492 by Queen Isabella I of Castille and King Ferdinand II of Aragon and progressively transformed into a Christian city over the course of the 16th century.
Things to see

Tops sights that are not to be missed!
While visiting Granada, the Alhambra is a must see! The Nasrid fortress dates back to the 14th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Alhambra is the 2nd most visited tourist attraction in Spain so it is best to reserve tickets well in advance. Please bring your passport as it is required for entry.

A visit to the Catedral de Granada and la Capilla Real is also worth considering. The Capilla Real is the burial place of the Catholic Kings (Reyes Catolicos) Isabella and Fernando who unified the kingdoms of Castille and Aragon in 1469. (Also the parents of Catherine of Aragon for the British people reading this!)

If you are looking for a great viewpoint of the city, consider a walk through the Albaicin district to the Mirador de San Nicolas - perfect for views of the Alhambra and the city!

Granada is also the home of flamenco, so it is also worth considering seeing a show while you are here! Also consider a Tapas tour from a local tour guide, to try and taste the food and drink of Granada.

Hotel NH Collection Granada Victoria - $$
The Hotel Barcelo Carmen - $$

Carlotta Braun (Hostel) - $

Airports and connections
Best routes to the city
The closest airport to the venue is Granada airport, but there are limited direct flights outside of Spain.
For those flying from the USA, or those wishing to fly direct to Granada, consider changing at Madrid or Barcelona before taking a domestic flight.

You can also fly via Malaga airport and then take a bus (Alsa) direct to Granada from the airport. This is likely the most cost effective option for those flying from the UK.
Getting around Granada
How to best enjoy travelling around the city
Granada is a very walkable city with interesting little streets that are fun to explore. (see el paseo de los tristes)

The best way to get around Granada not on foot is by taxi, which is a very affordable option, most journeys will be less than 7 euros. There are also busses connecting key areas of the city.

Food and drink not to miss!
Give it a try!
If you enjoy sangria, consider ordering a tinto de verano, which is red wine mixed with lemonade and ice!

For food, some of our favourite local savory dishes we would recommend include
Paella, Tortilla de Patatas, Croquetas, Pinchitos, Pimientos de padron, Flamenquin, Huevos Rotos and Patatas bravas.

For those with a sweet toooth, Granada is famous for its local sweet pastry - piononos! Granada is the home of piononos, so its really worth a try.

FAQ
What is the dresscode?
The dresscode for the wedding venue (the Parador de San Francisco de Granada) is cocktail attire. For those considering wearing heels, please be aware there are some cobbled surfaces in and around the venue, so keep that in mind!

The dresscode for the second venue is more relaxed as we want our guests to come ready to spend the night dancing and having fun. Please come in clothes (and shoes) you are happy to dance the night away in!
What will the weather to be like?
We expect Granada to be warm in October, so pack for warm weather, with some light layers just in case. Please do check closer to the time in case this changes.
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and meal are all outdoors. The venue will make adjustments if it rains to stop us all getting wet.

The evening venue is fully indoors.
Will we be acommodating children at the wedding?
Unfortunately, this event is strictly for people 16 and over due to restrictions in place at the venue.
The evening venue, whats that all about?
The evening venue (the Sala Aliatar) is a nightclub and event space. We have hired a private room upstairs, which is reserved from 8pm to 3am.

Guests that are 16 to 17 are welcome to join us in the private room if parental consent is given. Please bear in mind that minors are not allowed on the premises past 10pm.

Guests that are 18 or older have complimentary access to the nightclub, which is open to the public. If you want to party all night, we encourage you to join the locals and party downstairs till 7am!

What should I do in the break between the wedding and evening ceremony?
There is a break between the end of the wedding ceremony and the party in the evening.

We recommend you take this as an opportunity to freshen up at your accomodation and maybe even take a siesta!

We encourage you to get changed into your best dancing shoes and meet us at 8pm. We really want you all to be comfortable for the party!
Canapes will be served at the evening venue, but if you are still hungry after the wedding ceremony you are welcome to grab something to eat.

Is there parking at both venues?
There is no parking at either venue unfortunately. Granada is a walkable city with fleets of taxis and public transport options.
The Parador de San Francisco de Granada sits within the Alhambra and is on a hill, so we highly recommend a taxi to the venue.
Am I allowed a plus one?
We will have specifically contacted you to notify you if you have a plus one. If you are unsure please let us know.
What is the deadline for the RSVP?
Please RSVP by the 15th of July.
